Danielle Dottin follows Dream of Specialising in Internal Medicine
“The key to an easy repayment is to strategise about how you plan to pay back your loan, because like every other loan, you want to pay it back as quickly as possible to minimize the amount you spend in the end.”
After proudly graduating from Queens College, Danielle Dottin embarked on her journey to become a Doctor with a special interest in Internal Medicine. In 2004, Danielle decided to take the step to apply for a loan from the Student Revolving Loan Fund (SRLF). Her successful application allowed her to complete her first two (2) years of the four (4) year medical programme abroad at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, in Jamaica. The latter two years were spent in Barbados.
Danielle expressed that she found the loan to be very convenient and admitted that studying away from home would have been very difficult without it. She reveals, “even though the Barbados government paid for my tuition, I still needed the loan to supplement it. The SRLF was the perfect solution!”
Daniel, now 26, reminisced about being in a different country and meeting new people at the Mona Campus and expressed her love for Jamaica. She then offered advice to other students, noting, “leave home to study whenever possible, it not only allows you to expand your horizons, experience different cultures and meet new people, it also forces you to learn responsibility.”
Danielle encourages those who want to study abroad to utilise opportunities provided by the SRLF. “The key to an easy repayment is to strategise about how you plan to pay back your loan, because like every other loan, you want to pay it back as quickly as possible to minimize the amount you spend in the end.”
